From: "Newark, the City of Industry" Published by the Newark Board of Trade 1912 As its name implies, East Side Park is located in the eastern section of the city. It is the first of the so called "neighborhood parks", which were established by the county commission. The park is located in a thickly settled section of the city, and is intended as a resting place for women and children, and a playground for the latter. With an area of about 12 acres, it contains 1.5 miles of paths, athletic fields for boys and girls, a sand court for the little ones and a band stand. The land cost $117,792.04. The buildings on it were bought for $6,800, and the improvements cost $53,878.52.
